Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about what MovenRun is and how much of it exists.
What is MovenRun?
A movement game. You walk, run or cycle, and the ground your route covers becomes cells you hold on a map. Keep visiting and the ground stays yours.
Do I have to be fast?
No, and the design works against it. Ground is kept by returning rather than by pace or distance, only the first saved session each day counts, and XP is capped. A twenty minute walk every morning beats one long weekend run.
How much do I claim per session?
One cell. Saving a session claims the first cell on your route that you did not already hold, however far you went. Cells you already held and crossed get their hold refreshed at the same time. See Capture and the map.
Can I lose ground?
Your hold on a cell fades while you stay away, and a cell left long enough goes dormant and drops off your active map. Walking it again brings it back. No other player can take a cell from you. See Holding your ground.
What happens to my location data?
Your positions are used during a session to check the movement was plausible and to work out which cells you crossed, and then they are gone. No latitude or longitude is stored. What is kept is distance, duration, which cells you touched, and a signal score. See Movement verification.
Does it track me in the background?
No. Location is read only while a session is running and only in the foreground.
What stops people faking movement?
Every route is checked for plausible speed, usable accuracy and continuous motion, and any route that repeats one already counted is rejected. See Movement verification.
Do I need to know anything about crypto?
No. There is no wallet in the app and nothing to connect. Deeds are a planned layer and are described in Deeds and onchain.
Is there anything to buy?
No. There is no purchase anywhere in MovenRun and none is planned.
What are Points worth?
Points are a planned in-game currency for strengthening ground you hold. They have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for anything outside the game. See Points.
Are clubs real?
Not yet. The club and city screens are a local preview built from seeded data and do not sync between players. Making them real is the next phase. See Districts and clubs.
What is actually built?
Built: movement sessions, capture, holding and decay, districts and mastery, XP, levels, streaks, collections, the weekly recap, and route checking. A local preview: clubs, the city season board, rivals and sponsor zones. Planned: Points, deeds, and wallets. The roadmap gives the order.
